OUR MISSION:
Near East Human Rights Initiative (NEHRI) promotes the protection of the
fundamental human rights for everyone, especially for the people of the Middle
East. We support the accountable parties in relevant countries in upholding their
responsibilities and in implementing the international treaties and conventions on
human rights.
The NEHRI will also strive to bring awareness to the general public about the
state of human rights in the Middle East through conferences, seminars, briefings,
and by compiling and distributing materials relevant to the subject matter.
IN OUR VIEW:
Human rights refer to the "basic rights and freedoms to which all humans are
entitled." Rights and freedoms including civil and political rights; such as the right
to life and liberty, freedom of expression, and equality before the law; and
economic, social and cultural rights. These are man's indelible rights and must be
defended.
The Near East region of the globe, in part because of its geopolitical,
demographic, and economic dynamics is experiencing unprecedented turmoil. The
resultant breaches of human rights in the region can in large part be attributed to
the proliferation of Islamic extremism. Although the region as a whole is affected,
contempt for and violation of human rights in Iran is the most significant as Iran
is the only country in which radical extremists successfully in instituted Sharia
law, misogyny, and other oppressive concepts in every aspect and institution of
society.
Enabling democracy, human rights, and freedom in the region requires
considerable effort towards confronting Iranian cleric's particularly virulent
/expansionist world view. In this pursuit, international law and international
human rights laws must serve as our primary compass.
